PROCEDURE  FOR  ACQUISITION  OF  OBJECTS

Most objects should be owned outright by the Society.  Items to be loaned on a long-term basis require consultation of both parties with an attorney and written and notarized statements.  The Board shall have the right of acceptance or refusal.  

No evaluations of items for tax purposes shall be given by members of the board or their agent. 

All items shall be given acquisition numbers.  Its description, source and location shall be entered on a catalogue card. Duplicate catalogue files shall be maintained in two seperate places (i.e. the mansion and a board members residence or bank vault). 

All objects should be valued by an antiquary of repute.  Items valued over $50.00 should be photographed and the negative and two prints made and filed with the two catalogue files under the acquisition number of the object.

PUBLIC  INFORMATION  AND  ACCESSION

    Information about the restoration and accession to those parts of the building deemed safe for public access and properly protected shall be maintained .  Wherever possible ,  the public should be educated regarding restoration as applied to the Mansion and the life of Samuel S. Haldeman and those Native Americans that inhabited the area .  Policies of public access will conform to those required by the Lancaster County Redevelopment Authority .  They will also adhere to criteria recommended by such organizations as the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission ,  the Museum Coumcil of Lancaster County and the National Park Service .  Signs shall be acquired and maintained for the ease of location of the Mansion .     It is recommended that this Policy Statement be revieved bi-annually by the Board of Directors .  Any major changes in policy should then be reported to the Society .
